This morning, April 26, the price of pepper in buckets in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the market with the most competitive pepper price in our country, increased to 64,000 VND/kg, while in other key pepper growing provinces the price fluctuated in frame 61,000 – 63,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to the first day of the week.
According to the weekly trade report of the International Pepper Community (IPC), the price of Vietnamese pepper 500 g/l was at $2,950/ton, up $200 and 550 g/l was at $3,300/ton, an increase. 250 USD (FOB) compared to 2 weeks ago, while pepper prices of most countries remained unchanged or decreased slightly.
According to an expert on the pepper market, the reason why the world price of pepper remained unchanged while the price of Vietnamese pepper increased is because the weight of Vietnamese pepper is much higher than that of many other producing countries, especially the high density of pepper. very popular in demanding markets. If our country’s pepper growers know more care and know how to make more brands, the export price of pepper will double or triple the current price, which is within reach.
According to Mr. Nguyen Vinh, an expert on pepper and coffee in Dak Lak, the mixing of impurities in pepper is not a new thing but has happened for a long time. Because, according to quality regulations, pepper is allowed to be mixed with a rate of 0.5% impurities, and of course these impurities are on the list of allowed – pepper waste products, not foreign impurities. future.
However, adding impurities to pepper usually only causes damage to farmers and the price of pepper in the domestic market without affecting the export market. Because with impurities that are allowed to be mixed, the exporter must add a stage of preliminary processing, classification, thorough inspection … before offering for sale and putting the goods on the export ship to ensure the inspection of inorganic chemical residues. the strictest of the world market, sometimes up to 0.1 parts per million (pm). And surely the exporter will calculate this impurity number and add the waste sorting and quality inspection costs beyond this estimate to subtract from the agent’s and trader’s bid price for pepper and from there the Agents and traders will reduce the price of buying pepper buckets directly from farmers.
Mr. Vinh added that, when referring to the recent incident in Dak Nong, most pepper farmers have the wish that the authorities must be strong enough to eradicate, be able to deter and prevent prevent similar phenomena from recurring in any way. This is also an opportunity for the people of our country, both producers and traders, to move towards a green, clean and sustainable agriculture so that Vietnamese agricultural products are welcomed by consumers around the world. society must pay attention to “rescuing” from one agricultural product to another, making the life of farmers always fluctuating in insecurity.
It is known that until Indonesia releases a new crop that will be harvested around July and August, Vietnamese pepper is the only global supply at present. This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese pepper traders to expand their market share further. As for farmers, they have to change their thinking and especially take action so that pepper in their region and hometown must be branded as a specialty product or spend a little, a quality product that is trusted by everyone.
