Many solutions have been drastically implemented by Binh Phuoc province in order to “save” pepper farmers before the complicated movements of the price and disease of Covid – 19 …
How to do “2 in 1”
Binh Phuoc is one of the provinces with the largest pepper growing area in the country, but recently the price of pepper has continuously decreased (only below VND 40,000 / kg) causing farmers' hardships.
Currently, the province has 17,000 hectares of pepper, nearly 7,000 hectares beyond the plan. The infected area is alarming at over 1,000 hectares, causing many farmers to seek solutions to cure or change crop structure.
At the forefront is Loc Ninh district (the pepper capital of Binh Phuoc) developing a “2-in-1” model of growing pepper combined with goat farming to bring a good income for people, many households increase their income by hundreds of millions each. year.
For example, Mr. Dang Van Tuan (living in Loc Thuan commune) bravely demolished 8 / 10ha of pepper of an aging and infected family who converted grass planting to raise more than 50 goats.
Mr. Tuan said, goats are easy to raise animals, less disease and care, low investment costs. Initially with the idea of raising goats mainly for extra income, but when the pepper price dropped, the goat became the “economic” last resort of the family.
Daring to invest, so from 10 goats reproducing, after only 6 months of raising, Mr. Tuan has owned 50 goats, with a stable price of 100,000 – 150,000 VND / kg, brought to home by buyers by traders. Enter nearly 100 million. The goats also provide 2 tons of quality organic fertilizer to fertilize the plants.
In Bu Dop district, many pepper farmers are also combining goats and improving infected land to convert to fruit trees.
For example, the family of Mr. Le Huu Tri (living in Thanh Hoa commune) changed the whole area of pepper to planting tangerines. With this bold step, tangerine gardens with more than 1,000 trees bring high income. Sometimes tangerine prices ranged from 15,000 to 22,000 VND / kg, Mr. Tri earned a profit of up to 500 million VND.
Expand production chain link
The establishment of new cooperatives and cooperatives to produce clean agricultural products is a sustainable direction for many farmers in Binh Phuoc to find outlets for products and improve the value of agricultural product chains. .
Established in 2017, Bu Dop Green Pomelo Cooperative is considered as one of the leading birds in the production of clean fruit. After 4 years of planting and tending 70 hectares, the pomelos of the cooperative are developing well and on average, each year, the market provides about 400 – 500 tons of pomelos with the selling price of 30,000 – 70,000 VND / kg, bringing a stable income. for 18 members who used to struggle with pepper.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bac, member of the board of cooperatives, said: Currently, the demand for green grapefruit on domestic and foreign markets is growing; while products that meet VietGAP standards are currently not sufficient for export.
Being aware of this, the direction of cooperatives is to produce according to the organic biological process, reduce pesticides and increase product quality. The establishment of Bu Dop Da xanh pomelo cooperative is the initial result of the district's collective economic development policy.
Thereby, expand solidarity and cooperation to create high-tech production chains, create opportunities for agricultural products to reach the world market, improve farmers' income.
Similarly, Hung Phuoc Sustainable Pepper Cooperative with 80 members and the cultivated land area of over 300 ha, mainly pepper. However, the method of cooperatives is completely different from other pepper farmers.
Specifically, the majority of cooperative members signed product off-take contracts with Nedspice Vietnam Spices Processing Company and were granted a certificate of clean pepper production under R.A. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (member of the cooperative) has 3,000 posts and since joining the cooperative, the pepper output has always been higher than the market price.
“Each kilogram of pepper produced, if done strictly under the contract signed with the Nedspice Company, will be purchased at a price higher than the market price of 1,000 – 4,000 VND / kg. When associating, farmers are supported with technical support and use of organic micro-organic fertilizer to offer favorable prices, eliminating unnecessary expenses, ”Mr. Tien said.
Mr. Bui Quoc Hai, Director of Hung Phuoc Sustainable Pepper Production Cooperative, said that pepper growers joined cooperatives and will be directly controlling each other's production process, so only one cooperative member is required to act. commercial fraud or deliberate production not following the process, the cooperative's product consumption contract with the business is no longer valid.
The new type of cooperative will remove bottlenecks in traditional agricultural production by creating a large field, large output, ensuring technical processes, creating favorable conditions for associated businesses to produce sustainable outputs. firm.
Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc province, said that the agricultural sector encourages farmers to focus on product quality, commodity-oriented production, and have contracts with businesses to create blocks. The volume of goods is large enough, VietGAP certified, towards organic certification.
In order to remove difficulties for pepper, the provincial agriculture sector has advised the provincial People's Committee to encourage people to develop fruit trees in the form of cooperatives, gradually linking production, product consumption and many supportive policies. enterprises, cooperatives in terms of varieties, techniques, warehouses, input and output conditions for products.
“In the immediate future, the agricultural sector will intensify training and expand fruit production areas, especially fruit trees of high economic value, such as durian, grapefruit, Thai jackfruit, mango, longan, etc. At the same time, support management and technical training for cooperatives to cooperate with consuming businesses themselves. Avoid fragmented production, small, no contracts, the quality does not meet market requirements, “Tuyet stressed.
