Voters suggested that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should soon issue procedures for planting, caring for, and recognizing durian ripening preparations.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just issued an official dispatch responding to the petition of voters in Lam Dong province after the 7th session of the 15th National Assembly.
Previously, voters in Lam Dong province proposed: “In recent times, a number of shipments of Vietnamese durian fruit exported to China were returned due to being contaminated with heavy metals (cadmium) or processed products, Preserving durian fruit leads to a sharp drop in price.
Voters proposed to soon promulgate procedures for planting, caring for, and recognizing durian fruit ripening preparations, to create transparency in the use of preparations, and at the same time strengthen process and technology management. after durian harvest.
Regarding this recommendation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that with the policy of sustainable development of durian into a highly competitive commodity, the ministry is focusing on directing synchronous solutions along the value chain, ensuring Quality assurance, traceability.
At the same time, direct strict compliance with regulations of importing countries, promote sustainable links in production and consumption. Enhance the added value, consolidate and develop the brand and position of Vietnamese durian.
Recently, the Ministry has issued procedures for planting and caring for durians such as technical procedures for handling off-season flowering for durian trees in the Southern provinces, technical procedures for intensive farming synthesizing a number of Durian varieties in the Central Highlands, technical process of integrated intensive farming of durian trees for the Southern provinces.
The Ministry also issued temporary technical procedures for pruning flowers, fruits and harvesting durian. Technical manual for durian cultivation according to VietGAP and technical manual for farmers on durian cultivation according to VietGAP standards.
Regarding the recognition and use of durian fruit ripening preparations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that currently chemicals and growth regulating preparations (growth regulating drugs) in general and Chemicals and preparations used to ripen durian in particular in the list of pesticides allowed for use in Vietnam are still limited.
According to the current list, only the active ingredient Ethephon can be registered for use in ripening fruit. However, this active ingredient is currently only registered to stimulate the growth of some major crops such as rubber, mango, longan, dragon fruit, and ornamental plants.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued documents guiding and creating conditions for organizations and individuals to register the above active ingredients as well as research and register other new active ingredients for the purpose of use. The use of fruit ripening is included in the list of pesticides allowed for use in Vietnam. But up to now, only a few organizations and individuals are completing the procedures.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested that the National Assembly Delegation of Lam Dong province petition the Provincial People’s Committee to pay attention to directing the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant agencies and units to develop and propose Issue appropriate production processes.
At the same time, strengthen guidance, inspection, and supervision of the use of input materials, implementation of care processes, post-harvest technology… to ensure effective and sustainable durian development in the area.
