The market this week showed mixed reactions when Vietnam and Sri Lanka recorded a drop.
In the local market, Malabar black pepper was reported stable at an average of 4,153 USD / ton. Prices of Indonesian black and white pepper increased by 3% and 1% compared to last week, averagely at US $ 2,250 / ton for black pepper and US $ 3,164 / ton for white pepper. The increase in demand may be the reason for the increase in local Indonesian pepper prices from IDR 31,000 / kg last week to IDR 32,000 / kg for black pepper and from IDR 44,500 to IDR 45,000 / kg. kg for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper recorded an increase of 4% and 2% compared to the previous week with an average of $ 1,909 / ton for black pepper and $ 3,275 / ton for white pepper. In the opposite direction, the price of Vietnamese black and white pepper decreased by 4% and 7% compared to the previous week, averagely at US $ 2,042 / ton for black pepper and US $ 2,854 / ton for white pepper. Sri Lanka black pepper was down 2% from the previous week and traded at an average of US $ 2,643 / ton.
International markets show similar trends to local markets. Indian black pepper was stable at an average of USD 4,417 / ton. Prices of Indonesian black and white pepper increased by 3% and 1% compared to last week, averagely at US $ 2,735 / ton for black pepper and US $ 3,757 / ton for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper recorded an increase of 2% and 1% compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 3,420 / ton for black pepper and USD 4,870 / ton for white pepper. Vietnam black pepper 500 g / l, 550 g / l and Vietnam white pepper decreased by 3%, 3% and 1% from the previous week respectively, averagely at USD 2,408 / ton, USD 2,488 / ton and 3,760 USD / ton.
