Facing the shortage of goods when exporting some Association member businesses, on June 10, 2024, the Association sent a document to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation regarding the shortage. exported goods. The specific dispatch is as follows:
Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) sincerely thanks your companionship and support in business and trade activities of import-export enterprises. Listening to feedback and continuously improving the port’s operating system over the years has greatly contributed to the success of the enterprise’s import-export business.
However, recently, the Association has continuously received feedback from Association members about import partners reporting a shortage of pepper and coffee discovered at the destination port compared to the contract. previously signed. The exporting enterprise said that the weighing slip for the container with goods at the factory and the weighing slip at the port were identical, so the enterprise suspected the possibility of goods being lost while the container was unloaded and waiting for export. Other related documents are also provided by the business as a basis to prove that the goods are sealed and guaranteed to be safe from the time the goods are packed into containers at the factory until the time the containers enter the port.
Currently, 5 members of our Association have been reported about the theft of pepper and coffee at Cat Lai port. As follows:
The summary table shows that the volume of lost goods ranges from 7-28%, all at the same port at Cat Lai and all located at the port for a period of time due to ship delays.
Loss of goods not only causes direct financial damage to the business when the business must compensate or be fined according to contract regulations, but also affects the business’s future contracts. Not stopping there, the reputation and image of businesses in particular and Vietnam in general have declined in the international market.
With well-founded suspicions from member businesses, with this official dispatch, the Association respectfully requests the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation to strengthen supervision and implementation of professional measures. Necessary services to ensure the safety of the enterprise’s goods while stored at the port. For the cases of reported loss of goods mentioned above, the Association respectfully requests that you participate, work with relevant parties to investigate the incident and respond in writing, and have a plan to compensate for the loss of goods. loss of goods if the incident falls within the functions and responsibilities of the Port. The Association is ready to participate and coordinate to support the parties within its capabilities and powers upon request.
We hope that with the direction and supervision of the Vietnam Maritime Administration and the professionalism and responsibility of a service provider, Saigon Newport Corporation, along with the coordination and investigation of the authorities, the case of lost goods will soon be clarified, maintaining confidence for businesses in the management and supervision system, seaport operation and continuing to create favorable conditions for operations. enterprise exports.
The Association would like to thank the cooperation of the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation and look forward to receiving your cooperation and early feedback./.
