Challenges from the Pakistani market

However, the picture of Vietnamese tea exports is not entirely rosy. The largest market, Pakistan, saw a decline of 9.2% in volume and 0.1% in value in the first four months of the year. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, although Pakistan is a potential market, the market share of Vietnamese tea here is still very small, accounting for only 0.9% of total imported tea and 3.6% in value.

The main reason is attributed to barriers in market information, making it difficult for Vietnamese businesses to access and place large orders with Pakistani partners. This is a significant challenge that needs to be addressed to fully exploit the potential of this market.

The future is bright

Despite difficulties in Pakistan, a strong breakthrough in other markets, especially China, has helped Vietnam’s tea exports achieve impressive growth of 25.1% in volume and 23.6% in terms of quantity. value in the first 4 months of 2024. In total, 36.7 thousand tons of tea, worth 60.3 million USD were exported, affirming the increasingly solid position of Vietnamese tea in the international market.

Despite the challenges, in general, the Vietnamese tea industry is making steady progress in the international market. Strong growth in major markets such as China, Indonesia, the United States and Malaysia is a testament to the quality and competitiveness of Vietnamese tea.

However, to continue to develop sustainably, the Vietnamese tea industry needs to overcome current challenges, especially in the Pakistani market. At the same time, diversifying the market, promoting brand promotion, and improving product quality are also important factors for Vietnamese tea to continue to assert its position in the international arena.
