Domestic prices are increasing
Currently, the pepper growing area in the Southeast is in the final stage of harvesting, and the source of goods to the market is no longer abundant. It was also the time when small speculators, traders and agents moved to the reserve stage, so pepper prices have continuously grown hot day by day.
Although the number of pepper harvested at the end of the season is not beautiful, especially with the humidity still slightly high due to the lack of sunlight, on the morning of April 6, in Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the price of black pepper in a bucket has risen to 104,000 VND/ kg, the average price of pepper per day increased by nearly 1,000 VND/kg, the price of white pepper was 140,000 VND/kg, the price of specialty pepper remained unchanged at 160,000 VND/kg.
If in previous years it was very difficult to sell home-grown pepper, this year traders and agents came to the garden to ask and buy continuously at high prices.
Meanwhile, the key pepper region in the Central Highlands has not been able to accelerate the harvest because of the lack of sunshine, but the price of pepper has been at a high level since the beginning of the season. The price of black pepper in buckets has been collected by agricultural agents in Dak Lak today at the correct price of 100,000 VND/kg.
Especially in the key pepper area, where the famous Chu Se pepper brand is located, accounting for about 17% of Vietnam’s export pepper output, this year it is expected to only get about 8,000 tons of pepper.
The Chu Se Pepper Association said that due to climate change, the weather is not as favorable as every year, so in the 2010/2011 crop year, Chu Se’s yield may decrease by nearly 30%. Currently, traders have allowed people to come to the fields to bid 100,000 VND/kg of black pepper.
What also worries gardeners, contrary to many years, at this moment the Central Highlands is sunny, with severe drought to change the season, the Central Highlands is still murky, cold for a long time, there is no sunshine, so it affects the quality of autumn pepper. planned and slow to be brought to market.
The world lacks pepper
It is expected that this year, the world’s pepper demand will increase by 5% on average and the output in pepper-growing countries will decrease, so there are many different forecasts in terms of data, but the basic point is that the world forecast is still the same. The world will have a shortfall of about 35,000-40,000 tons.
The share of world pepper exports in 2010.
The analysis will show that the amount of pepper produced by China, Indonesia, and Brazil decreased because of crop failure, just enough for domestic consumption to increase. The remaining amount to bring to join the export market is insignificant, so the world already lacks even more. Supply currently depends only on pepper from India and Vietnam because Indonesia and Brazil have to harvest until the end of July.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), the domestic price of black pepper in buckets is likely to increase to 110,000 – 120,000 VND/kg, the export price will also increase to more than 6,000 USD/ton of black pepper and 8,000 USD/ton of white pepper.
It can be seen that the expected price is about to become a reality. And our pepper growers will have another successful pepper crop in the context of increasing world agricultural prices.
