According to preliminary data reported by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in January 2021 reached 16,896 tons of pepper of all kinds, down 3,846 tons, or down 18.54% compared to the previous month but increased by 2,130. tons, which is 14.43% higher than the same period last year.

The value of pepper export turnover in the month reached 48.72 million USD, down by 8.67 million USD, or 15.11% lower than the previous month, but up 12.73 million USD, ie an increase of 35.38% compared to the previous month. with the same period last year.

Average export price in the month reached 2,884 USD / ton, up 4.23% compared to the average export price of December 2020.

According to the statistics of the Vietnam Pepper Association VPA, in 2020, the member units of the association have exported a total of 182,908 tons of black pepper, accounting for 95.30% of the total export volume of black pepper. and 23,931 tons of white pepper, accounting for 93.65% of the total volume of white pepper for export of the country.

Currently, Vietnamese farmers are harvesting a new crop of pepper, estimated total output is about 180,000 tons, down nearly 30% from the previous crop. Gia Lai province, which is believed to be the capital of Vietnamese pepper, could drop as much as 60%.
