China is emerging as a potential market for Vietnamese pepper. In the first quarter of this year, China imported 7,000 tonnes of pepper from Vietnam, up 3.5 times compared to the same period last year. Demand for pepper in China is on the rise due to the rapid development of the food industry.
By 2017, pepper consumption in China will reach 52,000 tons compared with 32,000 tons in 2016. Expected consumption demand this year in China also increased. As a result, China increasingly needs to import more pepper, as domestic production is declining due to urbanization and unfavorable weather (China’s pepper production in 2017 only reached 16,000 tons).
Coffee prices continue to fall deep
Coffee price on May 16 dropped 300 VND / kg, traded at 35,000 – 35,700 VND / kg. This is the lowest price range in nearly 2 months. Farmers and small speculators in Vietnam are not ready to sell coffee at current prices.
At this time, Brazilian farmers are gearing up to harvest the new Conilon Robusta coffee this year with a projected 15.5-15.7 million bags and they are expected to soon launch the domestic market due to the supply of coffees. This has been exhausted. However, as Brazil’s total annual demand for Conilon Robusta coffee amounts to 18-20 million bags, it will be offset by low quality Arabica coffee.
Meanwhile, the output of African Robusta coffee is mostly high quality, so it is very competitive and only sufficient for high-level roasters in East-West Europe and around the region. Mediterranean region.
The price of coffee dropped as the Brazilian Reais weakened again
This has prompted Brazilians to increase their sales because they will earn more local currency, and hence the price of coffee will also decrease.
