In 2001, Vietnam became the world’s largest exporter with 56,506 tonnes of exports accounting for 28% of the world’s total exports. In 2005, with the consensus of the United Nations and the International Pepper Community of Vietnam (IPC) joining the International Pepper Community (IPC), the Vietnam Pepper Association was directly involved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development IPC activities, sharing of market information on price markets, on the application of advanced organic cultivation methods (GAP), on quality standards.

In 2004, Vietnam joined the WTO.
