According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, currently in the pepper harvest in the Central Highlands and the South, prices have been low for many years.

Domestic pepper production is quite large, but Vietnam mainly exports raw materials. Currently, products made from pepper mainly include: black pepper and ground white pepper powder, a small amount of red pepper, green pepper in brine …

In general, the structure of processed pepper products is not appropriate, white pepper has a high export value, but only accounts for 10-15% of the total output, resulting in low value for the domestic pepper industry, not commensurate with the potential.

In the context of complicated COVID-19 epidemic, slowing export, the domestic pepper industry needs to upgrade the processing stage to improve product value, and improve the competitiveness in the world market in next time.

Follow CNBC, the rising price of coffee is good news for farmers in important coffee producing areas, who previously had many difficulties because of continuous low coffee prices for many years.

According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), since 2016, compared to the average of the decade, the price of coffee has plummeted by 30%. Arabica coffee price in March reached more than 1.12 USD / pound, but still much lower than the peak of 3 USD / pound recorded in 2011.

“Many of the 25 million coffee farmers worldwide have struggled to cover operating costs as seed and fertilizer prices continue to rise. As a result, farmers' incomes are significantly reduced and their livelihoods are seriously threatened, ”the ICO stated in a report released last weekend.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused supply disruptions from production, transportation to retail because of a large blockade worldwide.

For example, shipments from Columbia – another major coffee maker, may be temporarily interrupted by a blockade, CNBC guide information from ICO.
