In 2019, about 120 tons of Kampot pepper that has been granted Geographical Indications (GI) from the EU has been harvested, but the traditional way of selling it through the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association is less than half.
According to the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association, at the end of December 2019, the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association sold about 50 tons of pepper, lower than the 68 tons in 2018.
Of which, 30% is consumed in the domestic market, mainly for tourist shops and 70% for export.
Cambodia's export markets for pepper include the EU, US, Japan, China and South Korea. The remaining pepper stored by farmers can be sold in the domestic market, but at a lower price, depending on demand.
