Specifically, according to Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, PCT of Chu Se Pepper Association (Gia Lai), nearly 2 months ago, the top price for black pepper in Chu Se fell to only 130,000 VND/kg, but then later has continuously increased and is now at nearly 180,000 VND/kg.

The sharp increase in pepper prices in recent years is difficult to explain, when two large speculative markets that bought a lot of Vietnam’s pepper, Singapore and Dubai, have collapsed and defaulted. Besides, in April, enterprises exported a lot of pepper (over 20,000 tons), which means that farmers sold a lot of pepper to the market, but pepper prices kept increasing strongly and continuously. Mr. Nam tried to give some hypotheses to explain the increase in domestic pepper prices: El Nino reduces output in many pepper growing countries; many countries have not yet entered the new pepper crop; At the beginning of the crop, many pepper farmers in Vietnam, because they needed money to spend, sold a lot of pepper, causing the price to drop to just over VND 130,000/kg, after that time only households with economic potential remained. good, still storing pepper and selling it out slowly, causing the price of pepper to increase continuously.

This is the active regulation of pepper farmers themselves, especially those who have a lot of experience, are able to analyze and forecast the market and have a solid economic base. It is this active regulation that will make it difficult for pepper prices to fall in the coming years, even if pepper production increases greatly due to an increase in acreage in many localities (but the sharp increase in acreage in the long run will cause problems in the future). unpredictable okay).

By the end of 2015, according to statistics of the 7 largest pepper producing provinces (Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai and Quang Tri), the pepper area in these provinces already 86,216 ha. Although the export price of pepper has decreased compared to the beginning of the year and compared to the same period last year, it is still at a high level. The forecast of the American Spice Association (ASTA) said that the world pepper price will increase in the near future due to limited supply.

Particularly in this year 2016, the world supply of pepper will be greatly affected by El Nino, causing production losses in many pepper-growing countries, while Vietnam’s pepper output will not have large fluctuations. These factors will also support domestic pepper prices in the near future.

Another inexplicable thing that is causing headaches for both businesses and Vietnamese pepper growers is that many shipments have been returned by difficult markets because of the detection of Carbendazim residue, which has not been detected so far. know from where.

Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh said that recently, the Department of Cultivation and this association went to survey a number of pepper growing households in the area. A household is a typical farmer nationwide, wondered, this household sprayed pesticides on pepper for the last time in August last year, harvested in January of the following year, in April, the pepper plot originated from the household’s pepper garden. This product has just been exported, but when foreign authorities take samples for testing, it still detects residues of Carbendazim 10 times higher than allowed.

Mr. Do Ha Nam also informed that a farm in the Central Highlands is planting the best pepper at present. This farm has deployed pepper cultivation in a sustainable and safe manner in a very methodical and serious manner. However, when testing 10 pepper samples from this farm, two samples were found to have Carbendazim residues. The news surprised everyone.

So, when farmers have strictly complied with the use of pesticides, have produced sustainably and safely, where does the residue of Carbendazim in pepper come from? From the soil, in the water or from some other cause. Mr. Nam said that authorities and scientists need to step in to find out the real cause of carbendazim residues in pepper today.
