Recently, there is information that pepper farmers are storing too much and waiting for high prices. However, the reality shows that up to this point, pepper farmers have sold quite a lot. The amount of pepper stored by the people is not much
Farmers have sold a lot
Mr. Tran Huu Thang, Chairman of the Union of High-yield Pepper Clubs (Phuoc Loc Hamlet, Xuan Tho Commune, Xuan Loc, Dong Nai) said that most pepper is grown in this area, including those with economic conditions. Good and knowledgeable pepper market, in the past time has sold quite a lot. Therefore, up to this point, the amount of pepper stored by farmers is only quite small. Maybe only pepper purchasing agents, pepper businesses in the region still stock a lot of pepper.
Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, Vice Chairman of Chu Se Pepper Association (Gia Lai) said that in this district, the amount of pepper stored in the population is also very small. The reason was that the last pepper crop had failed, and the output was not much. Not long ago, when the price of pepper rose to 230,000 VND/kg, which was a very high level, farmers sold a lot.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Oanh, General Secretary of the Vietnam Pepper Association also said that the amount of consumption in the population is not much. The proof is that up to now, according to the data of the General Department of Customs, about 100,000 tons of pepper have been exported. Last crop year, Vietnam did not hit the pepper season, the output was only about 130,000 tons.
Therefore, in many businesses and people, there are only about 30,000 tons of pepper left. A few months ago, farmers kept a lot of pepper, because they saw that last year, the price of pepper was higher at the end of the year, but then they sold a lot. Some households used to store up to 40 tons of pepper in the warehouse, and now they have sold it. Of course, there are still a few households that still store a lot of pepper, about 5-10 tons/household. But these households are in the form of having grown pepper for decades, having experienced a lot of blood and blood in output, so there is nothing to worry about. Besides, by the beginning of December, there will be a new pepper crop. Therefore, households that still store pepper will, at best, only store until November to sell.
The price is still good until the end of the year
Currently, pepper prices that farmers sell are still at a high level. Mr. Tran Huu Thang said that the price of black pepper in Xuan Loc is currently at 225,000 VND/kg. According to Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, the price of black pepper in Chu Se that farmers can sell is currently around 205,000-210,000 VND/kg.
Especially, due to the high demand in the world market, the export price of pepper is at an all-time high. According to Ms. Nguyen Mai Oanh, the export price of black pepper is currently at $9,300-9,700/ton. From now until the end of the year, the export price of pepper is not expected to decrease but may increase again, because the price of black pepper that is 550-570 g/liter that India sells is currently above 10,000 USD/ton.
On the other hand, Vietnam has the strength of pepper with a large weight of 550 g/liter (which is a type of pepper with stable prices at a high level), while in other large pepper growing countries, the common weight is at 450 g/liter. -500 g/liter. The unfortunate thing about Vietnamese pepper is that it is still being exported popularly in the form of poor quality, because of the abuse of pesticides in pepper cultivation. But if exported in the form of quality assurance, the price of Vietnamese pepper may be 10-15% higher than today.
Up to now, some enterprises have boldly invested in pepper processing plants to be able to export pepper without residues of pesticides, but this amount of pepper is still quite small compared to the total amount of pepper exported. .
Because export prices are still very good, domestic pepper prices will be kept high until the end of this year. However, pepper price next year is likely to be difficult to keep at the current high level. Because in pepper growing localities, because over the years, pepper prices have always been at an attractive level, so the area under pepper cultivation has increased quite a lot. In addition, the difficulties of industrial crops such as coffee, rubber, etc., also contribute to the increase of pepper growing area.
Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh explained: “Coffee is currently only around at a low price of 35,000-36,000 VND/kg, rubber is dying up and down. Land for coffee and rubber plantations can completely grow pepper. Therefore, many farmers have switched from coffee, rubber to pepper, or used the rubber garden as venom to intercrop pepper in it.”
