Brasilthe country that mainly produces black pepper, has risen to become a producer and the second largest pepper exporter in the world only behind Vietnam, according to the market report of IPC.

Over the past three years, Brazil has increased the volume of pepper exports by 134%, although the value of exports has decreased by 21% compared to 2016.
In 2016, Brazil exported a total of 31,085 tons of pepper, 99% of which was pepper, reaching an average monthly export of 2,590 tons. In that year, Brazil achieved a total pepper export revenue of 246 million USD, then recorded the average price of the total pepper Brazil exported at 7,982 USD/ton for whole pepper and 2,237 USD/ton for ground pepper.
2017 saw a sudden increase in the quantity of Brazilian pepper exported. A total of 59,501 tons of pepper was recorded, 99% of which was in the form of pepper, an increase of 91% compared to the previous year 2016. On average this year, Brazil exported 4,958 tons of pepper per month, recording the highest figure of 8,848 tons of pepper exports in October 2017. The total value of pepper exports in 2017 was reported by Brazil to be 274 million USD, an increase of 11% compared to 2016 export value. The average price of Brazil’s pepper exports in 2017 was 4,622 USD. /ton for ground pepper and at 2,140 USD/ton for ground pepper.
By the end of 2018, Brazil had exported a total of 72,580 tons of pepper, of which 99% was pepper. Thus, recording an increase of 134% compared to 2016 and an increase of 22% compared to 2017. In 2018, Brazil exported an average of about 6,048 tons of pepper per month, having recorded the highest export figure in November at 12,791 tons. The total export value of Brazil in 2018 stood at 195 million USD, a decrease of 21% compared to 2016 and 29% respectively compared to 2017. The average export price of Brazil’s pepper in 2018 was only 2,689 USD/ton for ground pepper and $1,954/ton for ground pepper.
In 2018 alone, Brazil exported pepper to more than 80 countries around the world, including pepper producing countries except Indonesia. The top 5 destinations are Germany with 14,677 tons, accounting for 21% of total pepper exports, followed by the US with 10,764 tons, Vietnam with 9,763 tons, Morocco with 6,541 tons and Mexico with 4,285 tons.
