Normally Vietnam and India have an equal role, but in recent years, Indian people are no longer interested in pepper because of low income.
Among the major pepper growing countries in the world, Indonesia, China and Brazil devote most of their domestic consumption to the domestic market, with the world relying on two major exporters, India and Vietnam.
But in recent years Indian farmers are no longer interested in pepper because of their low income. Many places turn to other crops to reduce the area of pepper, the output also decreases because of lack of care. India has to import more from the outside for recycling so the role of exporting pepper has shifted to Vietnam.
This year, only Vietnam's output was assessed to be stable, while other countries plummeted.
According to Reuters analysts' forecast, this year's world pepper output will only reach 257,000 tons, compared to 290,700 last year. The remaining reserve is about 40,000 tons, bringing the total supply to 297,000 tons. Meanwhile, the total consumption this year will increase about 5% compared to the consumption of 320,000 tons in 2010, the world shortage of 33,000 to 35,000 tons of pepper.
The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) earlier this year also forecast that the world will lack pepper and Vietnamese farmers will benefit. Because Vietnam's production does not decline, especially the scale of industrial cultivation is higher. And because this year the major pepper producing countries have lost their crops, in the context of increasing demand, the world only depends on pepper from Vietnam.
Reuters data also shows that in 2010, Vietnam accounted for 47% of the export market share of pepper, holding the No. 1 position in the world.
Since the beginning of the year, the market has depended heavily on Vietnam. The pepper harvest in India has also ended, but at this time there is no major role in the world pepper market, because they consume almost all of their own production, so the role of Vietnam pepper is bigger. .
According to the statistics of the Agriculture sector, pepper export in August was estimated at 15 thousand tons, turnover reached 91 million USD, bringing the export volume of 8 months pepper to 98 thousand tons with an export value of 545 million USD. , up 6.5% in volume and up to 78.7% in value over the same period last year.
VPA expects that in 2011 Vietnam will export the same amount as in 2010, continuing to hold the world's No. 1 position in pepper export.
