Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2019, pepper exports reached 146,000 tons, worth 376.37 million USD, up 33% in volume, but down 1.3% in value compared to the first 5 months of 2018.

In May 2019, the average export price of pepper reached $2,458/ton, down 2.6% compared to April 2019 and down 24.5% compared to May 2018. Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2019, the average export price of pepper reached $2,579/ton, down 25.8% compared to the first 5 months of 2018.

In May 2019, pepper exports to most major markets increased compared to May 2018. Specifically, pepper exports to the US in May 2019 reached 5.1 thousand tons, worth 13.58 million USD, up 13.5% in volume, but down 7.1% in value. Notably, the amount of pepper exported to a number of three-digit growth markets such as Germany increased by 112.5%, Pakistan increased by 104.4%, the United Arab Emirates increased by 133%, Myanmar increased by 316% .

In the first 5 months of 2019, pepper exports to major markets grew by double digits in volume, but decreased in value compared to the first 5 months of 2018. In the world market, global pepper prices increased again, but the uptrend is forecasted to be difficult to maintain for long due to abundant supply. According to data from the International Pepper Association, in 2019 world pepper production will continue to increase, expected to reach about 602,000 tons, up 8.27%, of which Brazil increases 28%, Cambodia increases 17%, Sri Lanka Lanka increased 44% to 26,700 tons. Vietnam alone is forecasted to produce 240,000 tons, an increase of about 9% because the new planting area from 2014-2016 began to be harvested.
