As a long-time coffee farmer, Mr. Ly Thong Ha (Di Linh district, Lam Dong province) has never seen a strange phenomenon like this year when coffee prices increased at peak harvest time.
“Coffee prices are very difficult to predict as they are greatly influenced by external macro factors. Therefore, farmers’ psychology is often unpredictable because it is difficult to predict the price” – this old farmer said.
Also according to Mr. Ha, currently the price of fresh coffee in Lam Dong is being purchased from 20,000 – 22,000 VND/kg (1 kg of green coffee requires 4 – 4.5 kg of fresh coffee), which is the highest level ever. Nowadays, coffee growers are making a profit of about 60-70%, or 2 profits from 1 capital.
Talk to reporters Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper Regarding current coffee prices, Mr. Do Ha Nam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Intimex Group Joint Stock Company, talked about a special factor that few people talk about, which is the role of Vietnamese farmers in regulating prices. . Mr. Nam is also Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA).
In the recent 2023-2024 crop year, Intimex and its affiliated companies exported a total of nearly 885 million USD of coffee, leading the country, so Intimex is considered the “tycoon” of Vietnamese coffee exports. However, in terms of individual businesses, Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd. (Gia Lai) leads with a turnover of more than 520 million USD.
Mr. Do Ha Nam said that the average price of green coffee sold by farmers is about 110,000 VND/kg, which is a “dream” level for many years.
“Coffee is in full harvest but farmers haven’t sold much yet, the supply is not abundant, so prices are kept high. They can do this because they are not under financial pressure and coffee can be stored for 1 year. -2 years” – Mr. Do Ha Nam explained.
However, as a leading coffee exporter, Mr. Nam said that importers complain about the price of Vietnamese Robuta coffee being too expensive. In the short term, they still need Vietnamese coffee because consumers are used to the taste of Vietnamese coffee, but if Vietnamese coffee levels are too high for a long time, buyers will have to adjust the recipe. When consumers get used to the new coffee taste, coffee exports will face difficulties.
“Therefore, a moderate price around 100,000 VND/kg harmonizes the interests of all parties so that Vietnamese coffee can stabilize the market and develop sustainably” – Mr. Nam expressed.

In the Robusta coffee term delivered in January 2025, the price increased by 325 USD/ton after just 1 week (from November 7) after the election results of the 47th US President and Mr. Donal Trump were announced. is the elected one.
