The Import and Export Department said that according to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of India, the country’s pepper imports in 2020 reached 27.44 thousand tons, worth $ 85.27 million, down 6.5% in volume. and down 8.4% in value compared to 2019.

In 2020, the average import price of pepper from India will reach 3,108 USD / ton, down 2% compared to 2019. In which, the average import price of pepper from India decreases in most major supply markets. but increased from Indonesia.

In 2020, India reduced imports of pepper from Vietnam, Indonesia, but increased from Sri Lanka, Brazil, and Ecuador.

Indian pepper imports from Vietnam in 2020 reached 10.36 thousand tons, worth 23.1 million USD, down 19.1% in volume and 25.7% in value compared to 2019.

In contrast, India increased its pepper imports from Sri Lanka with an increase of 9.1% in volume and 2.8% in value compared to 2019, reaching over 6,000 tons, worth $ 35.76 million.

Sri Lanka’s share of pepper in total Indian imports accounted for 22% in 2020, higher than 19% in 2019.
