Pepper price is still anchor at a high level

The price of pepper in Gia Lai is slightly lower, at 159,000 VND/kg. In the provinces of Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc, the price of pepper ranges from 158,000-159,000 VND/kg.
Although the price of pepper decreased slightly from 1,000-2,000 VND compared to mid-February 2025, it was much higher than the price of 144,000 VND/kg at 31/12/2024, and still nearly twice as high as the price of 80,000 VND/kg at the same time last year.

The Malaysian pepper market tends to be stable and sideways, the current price of ASTA black pepper of Malaysia is sold for $ 9,500/ton and Asta white pepper price is at 12,000 USD/ton.
Vietnam’s pepper market continues to be stable and the price decreases slightly compared to the previous days, but still very high compared to 2024.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, in January 2025, Vietnam exported 12,958 tons of pepper, bringing 87 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, pepper exports decreased by 25.9% but the turnover increased by 25.1%. During the month, the average export price of pepper reached 6,755 USD/ton, up 68% over the same period last year.
In January 2025, Vietnam exported pepper to 30 main markets. The United States is Vietnam’s largest pepper export market with 21.7 million USD, up 8.4% over the same period in 2024. The markets are after Germany with 9.36 million USD, up 112% compared to 4.41 million USD in the same period; India with 6.98 million USD, up 23.7% over the same period. Vietnam also earned $ 4.24 million from exporting pepper to England, up 112% compared to 2 million USD recorded in January 2024; Going to Korea with US $ 3.43 million, up 6.5%.
The total export turnover of pepper to 5 markets reached 45.7 million USD, equivalent to 52% of the export value of this item of Vietnam.
In addition to the 5 markets, Vietnam also exports pepper to the Netherlands with a turnover of US $ 3.25 million, down 16.6%; Pakistan with 2.6 million USD, up 82%; Spain with 2.08 million USD, up 84%; Russia with 1.6 million USD, up 59%; Japan with 1.49 million USD, up 22%…
The markets with high growth of pepper exports also include Ukraine increasing by 77% (reaching 0.16 million USD); Australia increased by 63% (reaching 1.16 million USD); Kazakhstan with an increase of 340% (reaching 0.22 million USD); Belgium with an increase of 64% (reaching 0.51 million USD) …
In ASEAN, Vietnam exports pepper to 4 member markets, including the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Specifically, the export turnover of pepper to the Philippines in January 2025 reached 2.58 million USD, down 3.3% over the same period last year; Thailand with 2.19 million USD, up 2.8%; Malaysia with 1.17 million USD, up 116% and Singapore with 0.2 million USD, equivalent to the same period last year.
Export forecast will reach a new record
In 2024, Vietnam exported 250,600 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 220,269 tons, white pepper reached 30,331 tons. The total export turnover of pepper in 2024 reached US $ 1.32 billion, of which black pepper reached 1.2 billion USD, white pepper reached 200.6 million USD. Compared to 2023, the export volume in 2024 decreased by 5.1%, but the export turnover increased to 45.4%. The average export price of black pepper in 2024 reached 5,154 USD/ton, up 49.7% and white pepper reached 6,884 USD/ton, up 38.9% compared to last year.
In terms of market, the United States is Vietnam’s largest pepper export market in 2024 with 72,311 tons, accounting for 28.9% and up 33.2% compared to 2023. This is also the highest record export ever, up 21.0% compared to the previous record year of 2021 reached 59,778 tons.
Followed by the markets: UAE 16,391 tons, up 35.1% accounted for 6.5%; Germany 14,580 tons, up 58.2% accounted for 5.8%, the Netherlands 10,745 tons, up 35.2% accounted for 4.3%; India 10,617 tons, down 17.1%, accounting for 4.2%. China’s imports at 6th place reached 10,549 tons, down 82.4% and 4.2% of the market share.
Particularly, the leading white pepper import markets include: USA 4,121 tons, Germany 4,013 tons, Netherlands 3,462 tons, Thailand 2,827 tons and China 1,982 tons.
The Vietnam Association of Pepper and Spices (VPSA) forecasts that global pepper production in 2025 will continue to decrease while the demand is stable. This is the motivation to create momentum for Vietnam’s pepper exports this year. With the current export price of pepper, it has increased by 68% over the same period last year, VPSA said that the export of pepper in 2025 will be very convenient, it is expected to reach the number of new record value, most likely to set a record of US $ 1.5 billion.
According to VPSA, Vietnam’s pepper industry is moving from growth to improving quality, promoting deep processing, diversifying products, diversifying the market to penetrate deeply into the global pepper supply chain. Currently, the price of pepper is high, so many families boldly pour capital to take care of the existing pepper garden and plant new areas that are old and poor.
Many farmers in the localities in the Central Highlands also boldly switched to organic production, ensuring that the product is safe to meet the fastidious export market standards to increase the competitive advantage for agricultural products.
