At the Trade Promotion Conference for Vietnamese Coffee and Spice Products held in April, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), said that one of the reasons The main reason why pepper prices have increased in recent times is due to limited supply worldwide.
Even Indonesia and India are limited in supply and smaller producing countries such as Malaysia, Sri Lanka and especially the two countries that determine global supply, Brazil and Vietnam, have all had their output reduced due to the impact. due to El Nino weather factors causing drought.
“Looking at the long term in the next 3-5 years, the amount of pepper produced cannot meet the world’s consumer demand,” Ms. Lien said.
Meanwhile, demand for this spice item is maintaining at a high level. China’s return to buying goods also has a strong impact on pepper prices.
VPSA’s preliminary data shows that Vietnam’s pepper exports in May reached 31,357 tons with a turnover of 141 million USD, up 19.5% in volume and 21.1% in turnover compared to the month. before.
Notably, pepper exports to China rebounded with a volume of 3,137 tons, an increase of 4.8 times compared to the previous month and the highest level in 11 months.
