Previously, the sugarcane area of ​​Luu Nghiep Anh commune was up to 1,800 hectares, with an average yield of 110 tons of sugarcane per hectare. When sugarcane was in season and had good prices, many households here built spacious houses and furnished them with enough amenities for family activities. In this 2023-2024 sugarcane crop, Luu Nghiep Anh commune has about 600 households growing 524 hectares of sugarcane. Up to now, sugarcane growing households have finished harvesting sugarcane trees, with an average yield estimated at more than 110 tons/ha. After deducting investment costs, sugarcane growing households in the commune have a profit of about 50 million-60 million VND/ha.

Every year, his family signs a contract to consume raw sugarcane with Soc Trang Sugar Company. The company also provides capital support without interest for farmers to invest in sugarcane seeds, agricultural materials, and even hiring workers. Investment costs are supported by the company until the sugarcane harvest is returned. Thanks to that, sugarcane growers no longer have to worry about lack of capital when resuming the sugarcane growing season.

“This sugarcane crop, the yield is more than 660 tons, the selling price of sugarcane at the field is 1,150 VND/kg, minus costs, the profit is more than 350 million VND. Coming here, my family members will maintain a sugarcane growing area of ​​6 hectares, because the sugarcane output is very good,” Mr. Lam added.

Mr. Le Anh Duong, Deputy General Director of Tra Vinh Sugar Company, said that the company has signed with farmers in the province to develop a raw sugarcane area with an area of ​​about 1,000 hectares. The company supports farmers with an average of 10 tons of seeds and 1.4 tons of fertilizer for each hectare of sugarcane, along with eight million dong for land preparation without interest.

For ineffective land converted to sugarcane cultivation, the company provides a non-refundable support of three million VND/hectare. The company also signed sugarcane price insurance and committed to purchasing at a minimum price of 1,100 VND/kg on the condition that farmers must sign an investment contract and commit to providing enough raw sugarcane output. The company wants the locality to continue to mobilize people to convert ineffective land to sugarcane cultivation to increase the area of ​​raw sugarcane area to about 3,000 hectares…
