The Plant Protection Department has removed 1,265 toxic active ingredients of 838 brand name pesticides from the list of drugs permitted to be used in Vietnam.
On January 6, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that from 2017 up to now, there have been 1,706 pesticide products. In particular, in 2020, the Plant Protection Department has proposed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to remove 1,265 toxic and harmful active ingredients from 838 brand names of pesticides that do not meet the regulations on pesticide management from the list of pesticides. allowed to use in Vietnam.
The Plant Protection Department emphasized that this elimination helps the list of pesticides allowed to be used will be more streamlined and create favorable conditions for users in choosing safer and more effective drugs.
Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of Plant Protection Department, said that Vietnam has surpassed the export mark of agricultural and forestry products by over 40 billion USD, of which about 50% is produced by the crop industry. But in order to export agricultural products, it is necessary to meet phytosanitary conditions and ensure food safety, especially pesticide residues.
To add value, Vietnamese agricultural products are oriented towards difficult markets in the EU, the US, and Japan, which have very high standards. But in order to export successfully, farmers must be instructed to use pesticides in a methodical way so that agricultural products meet high standards.Also according to Mr. Hoang Trung, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is aiming to increase the number of drugs by 2025. Registered bio-plant protection reaches 30%, increases the amount of bio-pesticides used by 20%, increases the used area model by 3 – 5% and increases 15% in the number of enterprises innovating with technology to produce pesticides. Currently, in the list of pesticides allowed to be used in Vietnam, there are 1,084 active ingredients with 4,021 trade names, of which biological pesticides have 231 active ingredients with 721 trade names, accounting for 18.26% of the total number of drugs. currently in the catalog.
