In addition to many export products increasing sharply, difficulties emerged when some key product groups also decreased sharply, along with market fluctuations and world political conflicts. However, the Agriculture sector remains steadfast with the target of “54 billion USD”.

The year was especially difficult
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development informed that by the end of November, the export value of forestry and aquatic products decreased sharply. Only the group of agricultural products and livestock products showed positive growth. Specifically, seafood exports with key products shrimp, pangasius… reached 8.24 billion USD, down 18.9%; Forest product exports reached 13.02 billion USD, down 17%…
Chairman of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association Do Xuan Lap said that in the first 11 months of 2023, the export of wood and wood products will reach 12.11 billion USD. The wood industry is trying its best in the last month of the year and striving to increase the total export turnover of the year to about 15 billion USD. Compared to last year, wood and forest product exports are expected to decrease by more than 2 billion USD. “This year’s export of wood and forest products is greatly affected by world political instability and market fluctuations. In the first half of 2023, wood exports encountered many difficulties when export orders decreased by 60-70% and only recovered in recent months,” Mr. Lap shared.
Similarly, the seafood industry is expected to reach an export turnover of more than 9 billion USD for the whole year, down 2 billion USD compared to 2022.
Analyzing the export decline of some products, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that 2023 is a particularly difficult year for the Agriculture industry, not only in Vietnam but also in many countries. The impact of epidemics and political conflicts around the world leads to export difficulties. Along with that, economic fluctuations also cause many markets to reduce imports.
However, besides difficulties and disadvantages, exporting agricultural and forestry products also has its own advantages. Therefore, many export industries have breakthroughs, compensating for products that are in deep decline. A typical example is fruit and vegetables with export turnover in the first 11 months of 2023 reaching 5.32 billion USD, an increase of 74.5%. Next is rice with export turnover reaching 4.41 billion USD, an increase of 36.3%; Cashew exports reached 3.31 billion USD, an increase of 17.4%. In particular, exports of cereal products reached 1.08 billion USD, an increase of 5.4%.
Currently, Vietnam has 6 products/product groups with an export value of over 3 billion USD: wood and wood products, vegetables, rice, coffee, shrimp, and cashew nuts.
Expect to reach the finish line successfully
Although there is not much time left, the Agriculture sector is still steadfastly striving to reach the target of exporting agricultural and forestry products reaching 54 billion USD in 2023.
To achieve that goal, many businesses have proactively accelerated in the last months of the year, a time when demand for agricultural products in the world increased sharply. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Viet Agricultural Product Processing and Export Joint Stock Company Nguyen Van Huynh said that the company specializes in exporting fruits such as pineapple, baby melon, lychee… The Company’s products are exported to the market. EU, Asia and some countries: Russia, UAE, UK, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan… in large quantities. The business’s goal in 2023 is to reach 4 million USD in exports. To date, the export value has reached 3 million USD. Enterprises are preparing adequate supplies for foreign partners and completing their goals…
In fact, the Agriculture sector can absolutely expect to reach the finish line successfully. Deputy Director of the Department of Processing Quality and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Le Thanh Hoa said that China has licensed 12 fruit and vegetable products, more than 800 seafood processing facilities, and 40 crab packaging facilities. , live lobster and 5 packaging facilities for black tiger shrimp and white leg shrimp; 128 types of products, 48 aquatic species of Vietnam. These are advantages for businesses to “catch the wave” at the end of the year to create growth momentum. In particular, the last month of the year has many holiday and New Year activities in many countries, so the demand for agricultural products and food increases sharply. Meanwhile, with the advantages of vegetables, rice, cashew nuts… and the return to stability in the export of forestry and aquatic products, the Agriculture industry can reach the target of 54 billion USD in 2023.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that import markets are warming up, with some markets increasing sharply. Combined with the disbursed loan of VND 15,000 billion, aquaculture and forestry products will also rise in the remainder of the year, positively contributing to the export value of agricultural, forestry and aquaculture products in 2023.
It is expected that from now until the end of the year, we will have the opportunity to sign 4 protocols, with the prospect of 4 more products (medicinal herbs, coconuts, frozen fruits, watermelon) moving from traditional exports to major exports. quota to the Chinese market. Effective implementation of the above protocols will have more opportunities to contribute to agricultural exports in 2023 and the first months of 2024. At the same time, in the sustainable development strategy, our country’s agriculture sector still focuses on improve quality, increase export processing, and proactively respond when the world market fluctuates.
