Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Planning Department spoke at the press conference
Agriculture and rural areas continue to strongly change their thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economy, promote restructuring towards the development of ecological agriculture, green agriculture, and circular agriculture.
Difficulties and challenges from the impact of the price of input materials for agricultural, forestry and fishery production are still high, diseases on crops and livestock are at risk of outbreaks; Unusual weather changes, more intense heat in El Nino, high risk of water shortage for aquaculture production and forest fires in many localities;… The above factors will affect production and business, demanding requirements. The whole industry must strive to strive, focus resources, take advantage of opportunities, overcome difficulties and challenges, effectively implement tasks and solutions, and strive to successfully complete the set targets.
The agricultural sector sets a target of 3.0 – 3.5% GDP growth rate of the whole industry, of which the production value (GTS) of cultivation increases by 1.49%; rice production 42.9 million tons; Livestock production value increased by 7.01%; pork production 4.5 million tons and poultry meat production 2.095 million tons; Fishery production value increased by 3.27%; total aquatic production of 9.05 million tons (5.37 million tons of aquaculture, 3.68 million tons of exploitation); Forest production value increased by 3.22%; timber output 22 million m3.
The agricultural sector strives for agro-forestry export turnover of 54-55 billion USD. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to implement measures to affect key export products with high prospects and high export value potential to compensate for expected products that may not meet the target. export turnover for the whole year, such as main agricultural products, 25 billion USD; Forest products and furniture USD 17 billion; Seafood 10 billion USD; Other items are about 3 billion USD.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien affirmed: The export of vegetables and fruits has never been as high as it is now. If the growth momentum continues like this, it will surely reach over 5 billion USD in 2023. The Deputy Minister emphasized that if the investment is better for deep processing, exploiting the market potential, the figure of 10 billion USD from Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports can be achieved.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, the agriculture and rural development sector implements the plan for the first 6 months of 2023 in the context of alternating advantages and challenges. In particular, the biggest difficulty belongs to the export market of agro-forestry-fishery products, mainly for wood and aquatic products.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized: “ASEAN countries and the agricultural industry around the world are very concerned about food security. Until now, people still believe that in leap years, rice yield will decrease, but this year, this situation does not happen because the Ministry has learned from experience and guided people in techniques. Vietnam is contributing to ensuring food security not only for the country, the region but also the world.
The deputy minister acknowledged that the agricultural sector is still a solid foundation of the economy. Vietnam still has many opportunities to export agricultural products to the world market. From the market structure and commodity industry, the Ministry will have flexible management, adapting to the new context.
