However, in terms of drought tolerance, yield, quality of pepper in terms of pungency, concentration … have not been appraised by functional agencies.
Mr. Tran Van Cop, Tan Hoa Hamlet, Tan Tien Commune is an experienced farmer and he is developing new pepper varieties. After buying Sri Lanka pepper seeds for experimental cultivation, he initially planted only 40 posts for 150,000 VND / string. Seeing that pepper was growing fast, was strong and resistant to disease, he had grown up to 400 pillars, so far the number of pillars without cutting gave fruit.
According to Mr. Tran Van Tig's share, this new pepper variety is quite special so he did not know all. When surveying, he found that people planted 5-7 years for a lot of fruit, for regular harvest, while old varieties often died.
In Tan Tien commune, there are currently 20 to 30 households planting this Sri Lankan pepper variety, some households have up to 400 posts. Some households have positive results, but many other pepper gardens die about 70% to 80%.
Agricultural experts believe that the time to verify crop yield takes from 3 to 4 years. In recent years, farmers in Bu Dop district and Loc Ninh district have been warned by the authorities about some new pepper varieties, which have not been verified because they are not suitable with local natural conditions.
The fact that people of Bu Dop district take risks with Sri Lankan pepper without knowing the long-term effect is likely to lead to crop failure, affecting economic development. Therefore, the authorities need to have early comments and recommendations for farmers peace of mind./.
