Implementing the resolution of the Executive Board, the VPA Office presided over the organization of the delegation to survey the situation of 2013 production, harvesting and consumption of pepper in Dong Nai and Ba Ria Vung Tau (phase 1 – 17-18 / 1/2013); in order to initially forecast 2013 pepper yield and output, expected sources of goods, market circulation and prices; in order to improve production and business efficiency.
Join the Union with 25 people, representing for the member businesses
In Dong Nai province: Surveying 4 farms in Gia Lao hamlet, Suoi Cao commune and Tho Loc hamlet, Xuan Tho commune, Xuan Loc district.
In Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province: Survey of 4 farms in Hiep Thanh and Tan Thanh hamlets, Quang Thanh commune, Chau Duc district.
Participants in the survey were the heads of villages and hamlets, the president of the Farmers' Association, the president of the Production Club. Farms visited in the survey were households with large area of pepper, experienced in production, know the results of household pepper yield and the situation of pepper cultivation results in the locality. They provided reliable, truthful information to the delegation.
Current situation and forecast:
first. Regarding production and harvesting:
The movement of tending and taking care of pepper towards organic intensification, mainly fertilizing manure, less chemical fertilizers and not using pesticides (because the plants are less sick), live poles, drip irrigation … is quite common in all gardens. target to the survey.
At the time of the survey, the harvest progress reached about 25-30% of the business target area (compared to the same period in 2012 one month earlier, because this year is profitable).
Productivity:
During the period of divergence of flower sprouts, the storm No. 1 (June 2012) is heavily rained, so the trees have buds, leaves, little flower buds, leading to reduced productivity on a large scale.
Some areas of business target after many years of exploitation are old, productivity decreases. The disease died quickly, still died slowly.
Due to the advantages of natural conditions (soil, water) and capacity, different farming levels of each household lead to different yields. There are households increased, some households lost compared to the previous crop.
The overall regional productivity is estimated to decrease by 15-20% compared to the 2012 crop.
Quantity:
Reduced productivity results in reduced output. However, the number of new planted areas so far has been harvested and young pepper gardens, because of the high price of pepper, farmers intensify intensification to increase productivity.
The overall area production is forecasted to decrease by 10-15% compared to the 2012 crop.
2. Regarding purchase, sale and price:
What is different from the same period in 2012 is that many households harvest and sell there; Even sold fresh green pepper has just separated from the break, or just exposed to the sun. The price of fresh green pepper is from VND 42,000 to VND 45,000 / kg (3 kg of fresh = 1 kg dry), dried in the sun with the price of 50,000-55,000 VND / kg (2.5 => 2.7 kg of fresh = 1 kg of dry). The price of black pepper is VND 125,000-130,000 / kg. The people said that at this price, they will sell out, if it is below the price, they will keep it.
Why is the phenomenon above? The first is that the selling price has reached a relatively high level of 10,000 VND / kg over the same period in 2012, farmers have great profits compared to production costs. The second is due to the psychological factor because in 2012, the stockpile at the beginning of the season and the selling end of the crop were ineffective due to falling prices, losses, and interest rates on bank loans.
However, households producing large areas, gaining a lot of output, having conditions to temporarily store, they sell moderately, divide many parts, sell immediately, sell gradually, pepper to sell to there.
Epilogue:
Through surveys, having access to pepper farmers, businesses have the opportunity to exchange information (even just for research and reference) but nonetheless helps for forecasting and planning orientations. trading, processing and exporting, increasing economic efficiency, limiting risks.
The VPA organizes a delegation to visit and survey key growing areas as an annual work especially during the harvest season.
