The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that within 3 months (from December 2023), pepper prices increased by up to 30%. The upward price trend is forecast to continue in the short term due to limited supply.

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that pepper prices in the domestic market continued to increase in February. On February 28, the price of black pepper increased from 10,000 – 11,000 VND/kg compared to the end of January. 2024 (depending on each survey area), up to 91,000 – 94,000 VND/kg. Thus, in just 3 months (from December 2023), pepper prices increased by 30%.
“The upward price trend is forecast to continue in the short term due to limited supply. After the Lunar New Year holiday, the harvest output is still not much due to garden owners’ lack of workers. Besides, the demand for pepper from China has increased sharply, pushing the price of the product up,” said the Import-Export Department.

Accordingly, the price of Lampung black pepper in Indonesia decreased slightly by 0.23%; down to 3,953 USD/ton. The price of Muntok white pepper in this country decreased by another 0.21%; to the threshold of 6,119 USD/ton.
