At a durian store on Lac Long Quan Street (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City), the price of Ri6 type A durian (2-4 kg) is at 249,000 VND/kg, while previously, this item was sold at 189,000 VND/kg.
As for Thai Monthong durian (2-5 kg), the price in July ranged from 70,000 to 100,000 VND/kg in shell but currently, the price has increased 2.5 times.


Even large fruit stores in Ho Chi Minh City are in a situation of scarcity of Ri6 durian and Thai durian. As for available goods, users have to pay very high prices to buy them.
Large supermarket chains in Ho Chi Minh City are also in a similar situation when many types of durian are “absent” on their shelves after the main season.
Explaining the sharp increase in durian retail prices, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) said that because the main durian season has ended, this item has also become rarer. time ago.
Currently, many traders have had to move to the West to buy durian because of the supply shortage in the Central Highlands region.
Representative of Hieu Thao durian granary (Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province) said the price of Ri6 durian is currently fluctuating 150,000-155,000/kg, Dona durian is 165,000 VND/kg.
“However, this price will change continuously every day due to durian scarcity. In less than 1 month, the price of durian has increased by nearly 50,000 VND/kg,” the representative added.
Also at a durian barn in Tien Giang province, previously, the price of Ri6 durian was only 95,000 VND/kg but in October it increased to 135,000 VND/kg. The seller said that due to limited supply, prices are being pushed up very high.
Faced with the above situation, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen commented that from now until the end of the year, retail prices of durians will continue to increase.
According to customs data, in the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam’s durian exports reached more than 2.8 billion USD, an increase of 63% over the same period in 2023. This is also the highest export level of the product. durian ever.
