For the pepper industry to develop sustainably, it is necessary to gradually reduce the pepper acreage in the coming years.

Vietnam's pepper output in 2017 has increased by nearly 25% over the previous year. However, the export is only about 214,000 tons of pepper with an estimated turnover of US $ 1.11 billion, down 21% compared to 2016.

According to market research of some international organizations, pepper prices will continue to decline due to the supply from major producing countries such as Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Brazil. In addition, the pressure of increasing technical barriers of importing countries such as the EU and US has been increasing, causing the pepper industry to face many difficulties.

Based on the current production situation and forecast of world supply and demand, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposes to maintain a stable pepper growing area of ​​about 100,000-120,000 ha. By 2025, the pepper growing area will reach 110,000 ha and by 2030, it will keep the area stable at 100,000 ha.
