Data from the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) shows that in February 2020, the domestic vegetable and fruit market fluctuated with different types of vegetables.

Specifically, for vegetables, in Lam Dong province, where the largest vegetable supply in the country has many fluctuations, while agricultural products such as onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cauliflower have high prices from 17,000 – 35,000 VND / kg, only 1,000 VND cabbage / corn, bell peppers fell to 8,000 VND / kg.

The reason for the decline in prices of these vegetables is that many other regions in the country can produce them. Moreover, due to the impact of COVID-19 disease, the export of these vegetables to China and Cambodia has many difficulties, leading traders to stop collecting goods simultaneously.

For some fruits such as dragon fruit, jackfruit, durian … at the beginning of the month due to difficulties in the work of customs clearance through the Vietnam – China border gate, the price has dropped sharply.

However, the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have implemented many solutions to overcome difficulties, such as calling on domestic enterprises to buy and exchange with you – China, reopening the door. With strict control, the price of these fruits has increased. The price of dragon fruit in Binh Thuan has increased from 14,000 to 16,000 VND / kg in the garden.

The Department of Processing and Rural Development said that the vegetable and fruit industry is still too dependent on some traditional markets such as China, making many exporters and gardeners face many difficulties whenever the country This changes the import policy.

For example, the impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 in this country has caused agricultural trade transactions across the Vietnam-China border to be blocked, which shows the need to restructure the market, open and diversify. diversify markets, especially markets such as Africa, Southwest Asia, USA, Japan, EU … to avoid risks because of dependence on a few certain markets.

In addition, the EU Parliament has officially voted to ratify the Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) between Vietnam and the EU on February 12, 2020. This is an opportunity for businesses to expand export markets for vegetables and fruits because this item will be eliminated tax right after the Agreement comes into effect.
