Data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) shows that in the first 10 days of March 2020, the price of live hog over the country tends to increase again, the price increases from 8,000 to 12,000 VND / kg compared to the end of February. / 2020.

Specifically, in the North, the price of live hog ranged from VND 83,000 to VND 92,000 / kg; in the Central region, transactions ranged from 70,000 to 90,000 VND / kg; in the southern provinces and cities fluctuate around 75,000 – 85,000 VND / kg.

According to the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Rural Development (IPSARD), with the current sow herd size, pork output in 2020 could reach 3.9 million tons.

However, if the sow herd size decreases by 10%, or approximately 590,000 heads, the pork output will decrease by 20% to 3.1 million tons; a 20% reduction in the sow herd would result in a 35% reduction in pork production, to 2.5 million tons.

In 2019, pork production reached 3.3 million tons, down 13.8% compared to 2018. According to the Department of Livestock Statistics (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), by the end of March 2 / By 2020, the total number of pigs in the country will reach 24 million, equal to 77% of the total pigs before epidemic, about 31 million in December 2018.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that the average growth of livestock production value in 2020 will reach about 4%, the meat output of all kinds can reach about 5.5 million tons, of which pork reaches about 64 – 67%, up 8.8% compared to 2019.

Immediately after receiving the information about COVID-19's translation back to Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has sent a dispatch to distribution businesses such as supermarkets, convenience stores … in Hanoi. and provinces and cities increase the supply of goods, ensuring to meet the needs of the people, especially essential consumer goods, including pork.

At the same time, there is a plan to regulate the source of goods from suppliers, from sales points across the country to increase the supply to localities in need.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, businesses and State management agencies in coordinating the work of balancing the pork supply in the present time will contribute significantly to pave the way for production and consumption chains of agricultural and food products. commodity products in general and pork in particular to avoid the situation of “hoarding goods, raising prices”, affecting consumers' interests.
