There is only one quarter left until the end of the year, good news for farmers and the industry export Vietnam. That is the export milestone of 1 billion USD for the pepper industry set many years ago and has been achieved in 9 months, surpassed earlier than expected. This outstanding growth is driven mainly by record high pepper prices this year, up to nearly 200,000 VND/kg at peak times.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the amount of pepper in the population is currently almost exhausted, causing the domestic trading market to become quiet. Sources of goods are mainly concentrated in agents and warehouses of businesses. This scarcity is partly due to the 2025 harvest being expected to be slower than previous years due to the effects of prolonged drought.

As expected, Vietnam’s 2025 pepper harvest will be almost concentrated in February 2025, some areas will last until March and April, 1-2 months later than previous years due to the The impact of prolonged drought has caused Vietnam’s pepper supply to become increasingly limited.

Experts assess that the Vietnamese pepper market still has a lot of room for growth and can maintain stable prices in the near future.

Experts assess that the Vietnamese pepper market still has much room for growth and can maintain stable prices in the near future. However, to ensure sustainable development, there needs to be synchronous solutions to improve product quality, expand markets and cope with climate change.

With prices higher than in recent years, local farmers in the country tend to replant this once “black gold” crop. 2024, pepper price continuously increasing, pepper growing households are motivated to focus on taking care of and renovating existing pepper gardens. Some farmers with old pepper gardens have boldly invested in planting new ones or expanding the area compared to before. Many provinces with strengths in pepper growing also have the above recognition.

As in Dong Nai province, in the past there were times when farmers massively planted pepper, causing the area to increase. At its peak in 2018, Dong Nai province’s pepper area reached 19,000 hectares. After that, pepper prices dropped sharply due to large supply, farmers neglected their gardens, did not take care of them carefully, pepper productivity decreased by 30 – 50% compared to before, people continuously cut them down. Up to now, the pepper growing area in the whole province is about 11,000 hectares.

In 2024, pepper prices increase continuously, sometimes reaching nearly 200,000 VND/kg, so farmers are motivated to focus on taking care of and renovating existing pepper gardens. Some farmers with old pepper gardens have boldly invested in planting new ones or expanding the area compared to before. Many provinces with strengths in pepper growing also have the above recognition.

The area of the gardens being cared for more carefully helps forecasts for the next crop’s output to show a slight increase. The increase in domestic output will continue to increase steadily in the next few years when new areas planted in the past 1 or 2 years will produce output.
