Today, pepper prices in the Central Highlands and the South increased by VND 500 / kg in Gia Lai Province to VND 39,500 / kg. For the whole region, pepper prices ranged from 39,000 to 42,000 VND / kg.

According to the International Pepper Organization, the world demand is about 510,000 tons / year and the average annual increase is only 2-3%, while the global pepper output increases by 8-10%. Global pepper production in 2018 reached 557,000 tons and is expected to reach 602,000 tons in 2019.

It is forecasted that by 2050, world pepper production will increase to 1 million tons and demand for world pepper will increase, but not in balance with the supply. Therefore, pepper prices may remain uncertain for a while.

Update coffee prices

Coffee prices today in the Central Highlands went sideways, ranging between 32,100 – 32,900 VND / kg. In particular, the price of coffee in Lam Dong province is the lowest and highest in Dak Lak, according to tintaynguyen.com.

Coffee prices at warehouses around the port of Ho Chi Minh City were flat at VND 34,200 / kg.

Robusta coffee prices delivered in January 1/2020 down 0.8% to $ 1,347 / ton. The price of arabica coffee delivered in March 2020 decreased by 0.5% to 131.6 UScent / pound.

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Indian coffee production in 2018 – 2019 dropped to 5.16 million bags due to adverse weather. Forecast of coffee production in 2019-2020 is similar.

Indian coffee production decreased to 5.16 million bags (60 kg) in 2018-2019. Heavy rains of the southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon resulted in lower yields for the arabica coffee crop.

The export forecast is revised down by 2% to 5.71 million bags of 60 because the price of Indian coffee is significantly higher than other countries in the world market.

Forecast of coffee production in 2019 – 2020 will decrease slightly to 5.16 million bags (equivalent to 309,600 tons). Arabica coffee production is estimated at 1.25 million bags (75,000 tons) and robusta coffee at 3.91 million bags (234,600 tons).

The Indian government does not stockpile any amount of coffee, which all belongs to the producers or traders.
