Pepper prices this week increased simultaneously in key provinces after a series of previous declines. Accordingly, pepper transaction prices increased by about 3,000 – 6,000 VND/kg in provinces and cities.

In Dak Lak, pepper is being purchased at the highest price of 95,000 VND/kg, an increase of 6,000 VND/kg compared to the beginning of the week.

The two provinces of Gia Lai and Dong Nai both increased by 3,000 VND/kg, currently recording a common level of 92,000 VND/kg. After increasing by 3,500 VND/kg, pepper price in Dak Nong is 92,500 VND/kg.

Pepper price in Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc provinces is 94,000 VND/kg, both increased by 4,500 VND/kg last week.

Pepper prices today, April 21, in the Central Highlands and Southeast regions continue to be sky-high, with increases ranging from 1,000 VND/kg to 2,500 VND/kg.

Specifically, in the Central Highlands region, Dak Lak pepper prices continued to increase by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday to reach 98,000 VND/kg; Chu Se pepper price (Gia Lai) increased by 2,500 VND/kg to 97,000 VND/kg, Dak Nong pepper price today increased by 2,000 VND/kg to 97,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, pepper prices also increased sharply today. Accordingly, pepper price in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province increased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday to reach 98,000 VND/kg; Binh Phuoc pepper price increased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, to reach 98,000 VND/kg.

Thus, pepper prices on the weekend continued to increase “hot”, extending the continuous increase of the past few days, bringing pepper prices towards the 100,000 VND/kg mark.

Overall, in the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam’s pepper exports reached 57,000 tons, worth 236 million USD, down 25% in volume, but up 1% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

In March, Vietnam’s average export price of pepper reached 4,305 USD/ton, an increase of 6.3% compared to February and a sharp increase of 44.5% compared to March 2023. In the first 3 months of 2024, the average export price of Vietnam’s pepper reached 4,153 USD/ton, an increase of 35.5% over the same period in 2023.

Domestic pepper prices are showing signs of slowing down in April after a sharp increase that lasted for many months. Meanwhile, pepper exports decreased significantly compared to the same period last year due to the lack of Chinese buying demand.
