Within the past 30 days, from July 25 to August 24, world and Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 11-20%, an increase exceeding all expectations.
In the Kochi-India market, the price of pepper near term from Rs 29,596 / quintal increased to Rs 32,900 / quintal, an increase of Rs 3,304, accounting for 11.16%, equivalent to an increase of 666 USD / ton.
Domestic black pepper prices in Ba Ria-Vung Tau increased from VND 113,000 / kg to VND 133,000 / kg, an increase of VND 20,000 / kg, equivalent to an increase of USD 1,000 / ton.
Vietnam's export black pepper is being offered for sale at 500 Gr / l-Asta at US $ 7,150 / ton and 550Gr / l-Asta at US $ 7,500, while 500 Gr / l-FAQ is US $ 6,700 / ton and 550 Gr / l-FAQ type priced at 7,050 USD / ton, (FOB), an average increase of 1,100 USD / ton.
Particularly for white pepper, the grade DW 630 Gr / l was offered at USD 9,500 / ton, (FOB), up by USD 1,200 / ton, the highest increase among all types but the supply was very limited.
Looking at the very strong increases can confirm current demand for goods is quite stressful, close to many early forecasts from the beginning of the year when the world supply and demand of pepper is increasingly unbalanced.
While world demand still increases steadily every year, the supply decline in many major producing countries due to the effects of weather, climate change … will create unpredictable developments.
According to statistics of the Agriculture sector, pepper exports in August were estimated at 15 thousand tons, with a turnover of US $ 91 million, bringing the export volume of 8 months to 98 thousand tons with a turnover of US $ 545 million. , up 6.5% in volume and up to 78.7% in value over the same period last year.
This contributes to affirming that pepper prices in the remaining months of the year will create even more surprises.
