Although pepper prices have increased rapidly in recent years, the export turnover of this commodity has decreased sharply by 23.6% over the same period last year.

According to estimates of the Import and Export Department, pepper exports in February reached 15 thousand tons, worth $ 44 million, down 11.2% in volume and 9.7% in value compared to January, compared to January. February decreased 41.9% in volume and 23.6% in value.

Generally for the first 2 months of 2021, pepper export was estimated at 32 thousand tons, worth $ 93 million, down 21.4% in volume and 0.9% in value over the same period in 2020.

Average pepper export price in February is estimated at 2,933 USD / ton, up 1.7% over January and 31.4% over February 2020.

Generally for the first 2 months of 2021, the average export price of pepper was estimated at 2,907 USD / ton, an increase of 26% over the same period in 2020.

Domestic pepper prices in February increased by 1,000 – 3,500 VND / kg compared to January, fluctuating between 53,000 and 55,500 VND / kg. The momentum increased when entering March, the price of pepper increased to 66,000 VND / kg.

The price of pepper increased partly because production is forecast to decrease by 25-30% compared to 2020 to around 168,000-180,000 tons of old pepper gardens and reduced investment in care and care.

According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, pepper production in Binh Phuoc province can decrease by over 50%; Dak Nong decreased by 20% compared to the peak period in 2017.

Dak Lak province alone cannot be reliably assessed because the survey is only representative in the two districts of Cu Kuin and Buon Ho and productivity shows regional differences.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, pepper exports in January reached 16.9 thousand tons, worth US $ 48.72 million, down 18.5% in volume and 15.1% in value compared to the previous year. As with December 2020, compared with January 2020, it increases 14.4% in volume and 35.4% in value.

In January, the average export price of pepper reached 2,884 USD / ton, up 4.2% over December 2020 and 18.3% over January 2020. In particular, the average export price of pepper to some major markets increased, such as the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Germany, Canada, and Egypt.

In January, pepper exports to many markets increased compared to December 2020 and increased compared to January 2020, including: United Arab Emirates, UK, Thailand.

Meanwhile, pepper exports to the US, China, the Netherlands and the Philippines decreased compared to December 2020, but increased sharply compared to January 2020.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, the export of black pepper in January reached approximately 11.8 thousand tons, worth over US $ 31 million, up 7.0% in volume and 28.4% in value. prices over the same period in 2020.

In particular, exports of black pepper to many main markets increased, including: China, the US, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, and Thailand. In contrast, exports of black pepper to some other markets decreased, such as India, Pakistan, Germany, Russia.
