Update pepper information

Recorded from statistics in the first quarter of 2023, world pepper prices have increased slightly but are still significantly lower than the same period last year.

By the end of March 2023, the price of Lampung black pepper in Indonesia reached 3,635 USD/ton, up 1.1% compared to the beginning of the year but down 12.2% over the same period last year.

Notably, Brazil’s ASTA 570 black pepper price increased by 18% from $2,500/ton at the beginning of this year, to $2,950/ton at the end of March, mainly due to concerns about reduced supply.

Accordingly, heavy rains in southern Brazil caused flooding and affected pepper plantations in Esperito Santo and Bahia, which pushed Brazilian pepper prices up sharply again. However, this price is still 23.4% lower than the same period last year.

In Vietnam, the price of black pepper export grade 500 and 550 g/l respectively kept at $3,225 – $3,275/ton, up 2.3 – 4%, but down 19 – 21.8% over the same period last year. Particularly, the price of black pepper Kuching ASTA of Malaysia remained stable at 4,900 USD/ton.

Similar to black pepper, the export price of white pepper from Indonesia increased by 1.9% in the first quarter of this year to USD 6,128/ton, but decreased by 11.4% over the same period.
