According to the International Pepper Association, the current world demand is about 510,000 tons / year and the average annual increase of 2-3%, while the global pepper output increased by 8-10%. Global pepper production in 2018 reached 557,000 tons and is expected to reach 602,000 tons in 2019.
It is forecast that by 2050, world pepper production will increase to 1 million tons and demand for world pepper will also increase, but not in balance with the supply. Therefore, pepper prices may remain uncertain for a while.
The pepper production and processing industry in Vietnam is in a very precarious situation, due to the development area beyond the planning, especially in inappropriate areas, the disease on pepper has not yet taken measures to prevent it. minus the effect.
The organization of production, preliminary processing and deep processing of pepper is still limited, not bringing into full play the potential and advantages of the pepper industry.
Domestic pepper prices
Today the highest price at 42,500 VND / kg was recorded in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the lowest 39,000 VND / kg in Dong Nai.
Specifically, pepper prices in the provinces of Ba Ria – Vung Tau today were stable at 42,500 VND / kg.
Pepper prices in Binh Phuoc, Dak Nong (Gia Nghia) and Dak Lak (Ea H’leo) is stable at VND 41,500 / kg.
Pepper prices at Gia Lai Today stood at VND 39,000 / kg.
Particularly, the price of pepper in Dong Nai after recovering increased by VND 500 / kg to VND 39,000 / kg. This is a low price in key provinces in the Central Highlands and the South.
Over the past two years, many countries such as Brazil, India and Indonesia have become competitors to Vietnam in terms of output and quality, of which the most important concern is the quality of Brazilian pepper. better with 80% of world market sales on organic standards.
Vietnam's agricultural sector has regulated and controlled the use of pesticides in recent years, therefore, it has partly reduced the content of pesticide residues in Vietnamese pepper. Most factories meet GMP standards and many international standards for food processing plants. As a result, Vietnamese pepper products are also appreciated in the world market, especially markets with high technical barriers and strict quality requirements such as the US, Germany, Japan, Canada, England, Australia …
However, there is still a loose linkage in the pepper industry which leads to a situation of oversupply and a quality that is difficult to guarantee, making the export of this commodity unsustainable.
