Pepper prices today (July 11) ranged from 72,000 to 75,500 VND/kg. In the past 6 days, the pepper market in general went down, the localities adjusted the price down by 500-1,500 VND/kg.

Compared to the beginning of the week, many localities decreased by 500 VND/kg, including Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Dong Nai.

In which, Dong Nai decreased to 73,000 VND/kg, Dak Lak and Dak Nong both traded at 74,000 VND/kg. The remaining two provinces recorded VND 74,500/kg and VND 75,500/kg, respectively.

Particularly, Gia Lai province witnessed the most fluctuations in the past week, down 1,500 VND/kg to the lowest level according to the survey at 72,000 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the International Trade Center, Russia’s pepper imports in the first four months of 2021 reached approximately 2.6 thousand tons, worth $7.2 million, down 19.7% in volume and 19.7 percent in volume. down 4.0% in value over the same period in 2020.

The average import price of Russian pepper in the first four months of 2021 reached $2,780/ton, up 19.5% over the same period in 2020. In which, the price of Russian pepper imports increased from Vietnam and India. India, Indonesia, but fell sharply from Brazil and Mexico.

Statistics show that Russia’s pepper imports from Vietnam in the first 4 months of 2021 reached 1.43 thousand tons, worth US$ 4.68 million, down 32.9% in volume and 10.3% in value over the same period in 2020.

Vietnam’s pepper market share in Russia’s total imports accounted for 55.26% in the first 4 months of 2021, lower than 66.14% in the first 4 months of 2020.

In contrast, Russia sharply increased pepper imports from Brazil, up 142.2% in volume and 51.9% in value compared to the first 4 months of 2020, reaching 280 tons, worth 784 thousand USD.

Brazil’s pepper market share in total Russian imports accounted for 10.82% in the first 4 months of 2021, much higher than 3.59% in the first 4 months of 2020, according to a report from Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade).

Through the above analysis, it can be seen that Russia’s pepper imports from Vietnam decreased in volume, but the average import price increased sharply.

Although Russia has a shift in the structure of commodity supply, the amount of imports is still much lower than that of Vietnam. This shows that Vietnam is still an important source of pepper for Russia.
