Domestic black pepper prices have increased by about 8% since late August as Chinese buyers returned to the market after a long absence.

In addition, Brazil’s pepper output is expected to fall more than initially expected due to unusual weather conditions. Cambodia’s crop is also smaller than in previous years. Therefore, the market outlook remains good through 2024 and even into 2025.

In Vietnam, information from Mr. Marcellus Giovanni, CEO of Brazspice Spices International, said that through a quick survey of pepper gardens in key areas such as Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Dong Nai, there are quite a lot of pepper chains but many chains are sparse. Besides, the pepper is still very young compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam’s 2025 harvest will be delayed due to prolonged drought in April and May in key pepper growing areas.

It is forecasted that the 2025 pepper crop will be harvested almost entirely in February, with many regions extending to March and April, 1 to 2 months later than previous years due to the impact of prolonged drought.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam’s pepper output in the last crop year decreased by 10% compared to the previous year, down to 170,000 tons. This is also the lowest level in the past 5 years.

In the first 8 months of the year, Vietnam exported 183,756 tons of pepper of all kinds, with a turnover of 881.2 million USD, down 2.1% in volume but up 43% in turnover compared to the same period last year.

The average export price of black pepper in the first 8 months of the year reached 4,712 USD/ton, white pepper reached 6,326 USD/ton, an increase of 1,270 USD for black pepper and 1,371 USD for white pepper respectively compared to the same period last year.
