Pepper Market September 15, 2024: Increased by 2,000-3,000 VND last week

Pepper prices last week increased by VND2,000-3,000/kg in key localities. In addition, Vietnam’s export prices in the international market also increased significantly, especially white pepper.

In the domestic market

End of last week, pepper price In the Central Highlands and Southeast regions, prices fluctuated between 154,000-155,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000-3,000 VND compared to the beginning of the week.

Thus, the price of black pepper in the domestic market in Vietnam has increased continuously in the past 4 weeks, with a total increase of about 10.5 – 12.6% (equivalent to 14,500 – 17,500 VND/kg) compared to mid-August.

On the world market

According to data from the International Pepper Community (IPC), black pepper prices export Vietnam’s crude oil prices had both up and down sessions, but overall the week still increased by about 100 – 200 USD/ton (1.4 – 3%), reaching 6,800 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 7,100 USD/ton for 550 g/l.

Lampung black pepper price (Indonesia) also increased by 0.3% last week, to 7,562 USD/ton.

Elsewhere, Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 prices remained stable at $7,500/ton; Kuching (Malaysia) black pepper ASTA reached $8,800/ton.

In the white pepper market, Vietnam’s white pepper price increased sharply by more than 9% (850 USD/ton) last week, to 10,150 USD/ton.

In Indonesia, Muntok white pepper prices increased by 0.3% last week, at USD 9,121/ton.

Pepper prices have been rising steadily in recent weeks as market demand remains high, especially as China has returned to buying large volumes after a long period of reduced purchases.

Meanwhile, recent reports show that global supply is on a downward trend.

Drought has severely impacted this year’s harvests in Brazil and Cambodia, while in Vietnam, output is forecast to fall 10% to 170,000 tonnes in 2024, while exports in the first eight months have already exceeded that figure.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), by the end of August, Vietnam had exported 183,756 tons of pepper of all kinds with a total turnover of 881.2 million USD, down 2.1% in volume but up 43% in export turnover compared to the same period last year.

In which, the export volume of most large enterprises increased very strongly at two to three digits.
