Update domestic pepper prices
Pepper price This week, it’s going up. Compared to the beginning of the week, purchasing prices in key provinces increased by 500 – 1,500 VND/kg.
According to the survey, the lowest price is currently 82,000 VND/kg recorded in Dong Nai province, followed by Gia Lai province with the same increase of 1,000 VND/kg, currently priced at 82,500 VND/kg.
Next is Ba Ria – Vung Tau province with a price of 84,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg.
After an increase of 1,000 VND/kg, the two provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong are now purchasing pepper at the same rate of 84,500 VND/kg.
Similarly, pepper price in Binh Phuoc was adjusted to increase by 1,500 VND, to 85,500 VND/kg.
Update pepper information
According to the page Mathrubhumi, pepper prices in Mattancherry (Kerala state, India) continued to decrease with an adjustment of 19 rupees/kg in the early days of February 2024. In the last week of January 2023, pepper prices decreased by 10 rupees/kg, whereby unsorted pepper was priced at 556 rupees/kg.
Overall, increased supply from Idukki district and reduced demand in the market has resulted in falling prices. In addition, pepper supplies also come from the two states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the harvesting season has begun in Wayanad district and traders said prices are likely to fall further as more goods enter the market.
According to records, pepper is being imported from other countries such as Vietnam into the Northern Indian market. On the international market, Indian pepper prices were recorded at 7,400 USD/ton. However, pepper from other countries is only half the price on the market. Brazilian pepper costs 3,800 USD while Vietnamese pepper can be purchased for 3,950 USD.
Pepper is also currently imported from Madagascar at a price of 3,300 USD/ton. A total of 415 tons of pepper were imported into India from other countries in December 2023, of which 502 tons were imported from Vietnam alone.
Mr. Kishore Shyamji Kuruva, Chairman of the Indian Pepper and Spice Trade Association (IPSTA), said that this uncontrolled import is one of the main reasons why pepper prices have decreased.
