According to the survey, pepper prices today continue to be stable at 140,000 – 141,000 VND/kg in the Central Highlands and Southeast regions.

In particular, traders in the provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Dong Nai are purchasing black pepper at 141,000 VND/kg.

In Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc provinces, the transaction price stood at a lower level of 140,000 VND/kg.

Demand continues to remain at a relatively slow level in all major markets such as the US, EU, Middle East, China…

In recent weeks, pepper selling pressure from dealers has increased as the harvest progresses coffee is going on. Farmers and domestic agents need a large amount of capital to invest and do coffee business, so they sell pepper to transfer money to coffee transactions.

This leads to higher pepper trading volume on the market compared to the first weeks of October, putting pressure on the price of this commodity.

Update from the International Pepper Association (IPC), in the most recent trading session, pepper price Indonesian Lampung black was listed at 6,671 USD/ton, down 0.18% compared to the previous trading session.

In other places, pepper prices remained stable. Kuching Malaysian black pepper was traded at 8,500 USD/ton, Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 stood at 6,400 USD/ton.

Price of black pepper 500 g/l and 550 g/l export of Vietnam still fluctuates between 6,500 – 6,800 USD/ton.

At the same time of the survey, the price of Muntok Indonesian white pepper decreased by 0.19%, to 9,133 USD/ton.

While the price of white pepper in Vietnam and Malaysia stood at 9,500 USD/ton and 11,000 USD/ton.

Update pepper information

According to IPC, after 1 month of recording a decrease, both India’s domestic and export pepper prices recorded an increase last week, when India celebrated the Diwali holiday.

Sri Lankan domestic pepper prices also recorded an increase this week. This is a neighboring country and is also the largest pepper supplier to India.

Meanwhile, pepper prices at some other manufacturers continue to be under pressure as the USD strengthens.

In Indonesia, because the Indonesian Rupiah decreased by 1% compared to USD (15,732 IDR/USD), domestic and export prices of pepper in this country both recorded a decrease.

Both Malaysia’s domestic and export prices have continued to decline since last week due in part to the impact of the Malaysian Ringgit falling 1% against USD (4.38 MYR/USD).

Vietnam’s domestic and export pepper prices reportedly decreased by 2% last week.

In other markets, prices of Brazilian black pepper as well as Chinese white pepper were stable. Meanwhile, the price of Cambodian black pepper recorded an increase.

IPC cited data from the International Trade Center (ITC), saying, import Türkiye’s consumption has increased sharply in recent times. In 2023, this country imports 8,819 tons of pepper, an increase of 40% compared to 2022.

Entering the first 8 months of 2024, Türkiye’s pepper imports continue to increase by 9%, reaching 6,500 tons. Of which, Vietnam is the main supplier, accounting for 69% of the market share with a volume of 4,466 tons; followed by Brazil reaching 931 tons, accounting for 14%; Iran 494 tons, accounting for 8%…
