Update pepper information

In Harris Spice’s October report, the company said prices had declined after peak harvests in Indonesia and Brazil. At the same time, the demand side is also low, with demand from China remaining weak.

Regarding production, in India, pepper fruit formation in many areas was affected by the prolonged dry spell in June-July, although there had been relatively good flowering before that. Rain continued into September, leading to cotton shedding and increased disease incidence. The monsoon is expected to bring more rain in the coming weeks.

In Vietnam, after the severe drought at the beginning of the year, when the rain started, many areas had good flowering. Weather is generally favorable in most growing areas, and if weather conditions remain good, production is expected to increase. Scattered rain continues in production localities.

Harvesting is continuing in Indonesia’s southern Sumatra. This year’s output is estimated to be good thanks to scattered rains in the early stages. In Bengkulu and South Sumatra, harvesting is gradually starting in most areas. Farmers have started stockpiling after previously selling large amounts.

In Brazil, peak harvest is taking place in both the northern and southeastern pepper producing areas. As the amount of pepper harvested increases, selling pressure also gradually increases. However, this year’s change in rain patterns has adversely affected yields in both areas.
