The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has just approved the Planning for development of Vietnam's pepper industry to 2020, with a vision to 2030 to increase productivity and value of the pepper industry to meet market demands, especially export markets; exploit advantages of land, water sources, climate, weather to develop pepper in the direction of commodity production, concentrated, efficient and sustainable.
The goal of the plan is to strive to 2020, with a vision to 2030, the pepper growing area of the whole country will remain stable at 50,000 hectares, the productivity will reach 30 quintals / ha, the output will reach 140,000 tons and the quality pepper products. as high as 90%.
In terms of product structure: 70% black pepper (of which pepper powder is 15%), white pepper is 30% (pepper powder is about 25%) and export turnover is 1.2-1.3 billion USD.
According to the plan, the DARDs of the provinces and cities directly under the Central Government base on the planning orientation of the pepper industry nationwide to advise the provincial People's Committee to review and formulate the plan on pepper development in the locality; organize the implementation of the approved planning plan.
For old and degraded pepper areas, it is necessary to have a plan for replanting. Pepper grown in areas where ecological conditions are inadequate, pepper infected with difficult-to-treat diseases and not in the approved planning area, it is encouraged to switch to other crops under local planning.
In addition, localities need to promote agricultural extension to improve the qualifications of pepper growers, tending, harvesting and processing; Prioritize the transfer of technical advances in pepper production according to VietGAP and Global GAP quality certificates …
Along with that, the localities focused on encouraging, supporting the formation and development of farmers' methods of linking pepper production such as cooperative groups, cooperatives, “big model gardens;” developing the network. purchasing agents for processing plants, focusing on developing major export hubs, gradually reducing small export hubs, gradually forming strong enterprises in processing and exporting pepper.
On the other hand, localities have plans to attract businesses and individuals to invest in developing planting, processing and consuming high quality pepper products according to the approved planning.

– Key pepper growing areas: By 2020, the area of 41,500 hectares will account for 83% of the total pepper area of the whole country, including Binh Phuoc localities: 10,000 ha, Dong Nai: 7,000 ha, Ba Ria-Vung Tau: 7,000 ha, Dak Nong: 7,000 ha, Gia Lai: 5,500 ha, Dak Lak: 5,000 ha.
– Outside key areas: By 2020, the area of 8,500 ha, accounting for 17% of the pepper area nationwide, including localities in Quang Tri: 2,200 ha, Binh Thuan: 1,900 ha, Quang Binh: 1,000 ha, Kien Giang: 500 ha, Phu Yen: 400 ha, Tay Ninh: 400 ha, Binh Duong: 400 ha, Nghe An: 300 ha, Quang Nam: 300 ha, Binh Dinh: 300 ha, Thua Thien – Hue: 250 ha, Lam Dong: 200 ha, Quang Ngai: 100 ha, Kon Tum: 100 ha, TP.
