According to preliminary data reported by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in January 2021 reached 16,896 tons of pepper of all kinds, down 3,846 tons, or 18.54% lower than the previous month but increased by 2,130 tons, ie an increase of 14.43% over the same period last year.
The export value of pepper in the month reached 48.72 million USD, down 8.67 million USD, or 15.11 percent lower than the previous month, but increased by 12.73 million USD, or 35.38 percent higher than the previous month. with the same period last year.
The average export price of pepper in the month reached $2,884/ton, up 4.23% compared to the average export price of December 2020.
According to statistical data of the Vietnam Pepper Association VPA, in 2020, the association’s member units exported a total of 182,908 tons of black pepper, accounting for 95.30% of the total export volume of the whole country. and 23,931 tons of white pepper, accounting for 93.65% of the total white pepper export volume of the country.
Currently, Vietnamese farmers are harvesting a new pepper crop, with an estimated total output of about 180,000 tons, down nearly 30% compared to the previous crop. Pepper output of Gia Lai province, which is said to be the capital of Vietnam’s pepper, could drop by up to 60%.
