On December 15, the Vietnam Pepper Association said that this year, Vietnam exported 120,000 tons of pepper with a value of US$720 million, up 8% in output but up to 86% in value.

Mr. Tran Duc Tung, Chief of Office of Vietnam Pepper Association, said that pepper price is currently at nearly 150,000 VND/kg and this is the highest price ever.

At the beginning of the year, the Vietnam Pepper Association made a forecast that in 2011, the output of pepper would range from 100,000 to 110,000 tons, the amount of pepper for export would reach over 100,000 tons and the price of pepper would range from 80,000 to 100,000 dong. /kg. After the first quarter of 2011, the price of pepper in the market has continuously increased and by the end of the year the price has increased much more than the initial prediction.

Mr. Tung said, at the beginning of 2011, when the pepper price in the market was quite high at 80,000-90,000 VND/kg, but the Vietnam Pepper Association gave advice to pepper growers not to sell. in large quantities that seek to reserve to regulate the market.

Mr. Tung affirmed that Vietnam is currently the world leader in pepper production for export each year, so the pepper industry is able to regulate the selling price on the world market.
