It is expected that in 2018, national pepper output will reach 230,000 tons, up from an estimated 210,000 tons in 2017 (175,000 in 2016).

According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA): Around the world, within the past 5 – 7 years, the pepper area increased 3 times (reaching 480,000 ha) but the value decreased 4 times. Price of dried pepper decreased from VND 250,000 / kg to VND 58,000 / kg.

In the domestic market, during the trading session on December 15: The average price of pepper in the major pepper growing provinces in Vietnam (Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ba Ria Vung Tau) reached VND 52,800 / kg. Lowest pepper prices were recorded in Gia Lai and Dong Nai provinces at VND 52,000 / kg; The highest pepper price in Ba Ria Vung Tau province was VND 54,000 / kg. In Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc provinces, pepper prices were VND 53,000 / kg.

On the export side, the report of the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) shows that: The export volume of pepper in 11 months of 2018 was estimated at 220,000 tons and 718 million USD, up 8.9% on but decreased by 32.5% in value over the same period in 2017.

In markets, due to the continuous decrease in pepper export prices, the value of pepper exports to most markets in the first 10 months of 2018 decreased compared to the same period in 2017. Especially, the price dropped the most in the market. United Arab Emirates (down to 34 million, equivalent to 57.7% reduction).

The Department of Agro-product Processing and Market Development recommends that: Exporters should take the initiative in actively exploiting the advantage that the country has a large supply and need good business problems to raise prices. export up.

In 2019, the International Pepper Association (IPC) forecasts: Total world pepper production is estimated at 4.9 million tons, down from more than 5.2 million tons in 2018. At the same time, according to IPC , worldwide pepper demand is about 300,000 tons / year.
