Recently, there was information that pepper farmers were stockpiling too much waiting for high prices. However, the fact shows that so far, pepper farmers have sold quite a lot. The quantity of pepper stored by people is not much
Farmers have sold a lot
Mr. Tran Huu Thang, Chairman of Union of High-yielding pepper club (Phuoc Loc hamlet, Xuan Tho commune, Xuan Loc, Dong Nai) said that most pepper growing in this area, including those who have economic conditions good and knowledgeable about the pepper market, in recent years, they have sold a lot. Therefore, up to now, the amount of pepper stored by farmers is still quite small. Is it possible that only pepper buying agents and pepper trading enterprises in the region still store a lot of pepper.
Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, Vice Chairman of Chu Se Pepper Association (Gia Lai) said, in this district, the amount of pepper stored in the population is very small. The reason is because the last crop was lost, the output is not much. Not long ago, when the price of pepper was up at 230,000 VND / kg, it was very high, farmers sold a lot.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Oanh, General Secretary of Vietnam Pepper Association also said that the amount of reserves in the people is not much. The evidence is that, according to the General Department of Customs, about 100,000 tons of pepper have been exported. Last crop, Vietnam did not hit the pepper season, the output was only about 130,000 tons.
Therefore, a lot of businesses and people, currently only about 30,000 tons of pepper. A few months ago, farmers had a lot of pepper, because they found that last year, the higher the price at the end of the year, but then they also sold more. Some households used to store up to 40 tons of pepper in stock now they have been sold. Of course, a few households still store a lot of pepper, about 5-10 tons / household. But these households are all in the form of pepper cultivation for decades, have experienced a lot of blood experience on the output, so it is not worrying. Besides, by early December, there will be new pepper sales. Therefore, those who still have pepper, at most will only store until November to sell.
Prices are still good until the end of the year
Currently, the price of pepper sold by farmers is still high. Mr. Tran Huu Thang said that black pepper price in Xuan Loc is currently at VND 225,000 / kg. According to Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, the price of black pepper in Chu Se that farmers sell is currently around VND 205,000-210,000 / kg.
Especially, due to the rising demand in the world market, the export price of pepper is at an unprecedented high level. According to Ms. Nguyen Mai Oanh, the export price of black pepper is currently at 9,300-9,700 USD / ton. From now until the end of the year, the export price of pepper is not expected to decrease but may increase, because black pepper prices of 550-570 g / liter that India sells are now at over 10,000 USD / ton.
On the other hand, Vietnam has the strength of 550g / liter large-sized pepper (which is a kind of pepper with stable prices at a high level), while in other major pepper growing countries, the common density is at 450. -500 g / lit. Regrettably, Vietnamese pepper is still being exported in a way that is not guaranteed in terms of quality, due to the overuse of pesticides in pepper cultivation. If the export is in the form of quality assurance, Vietnam's pepper price may be 10-15% higher than the current one.
Up to now, there have been some businesses bravely investing in pepper processing plants so that pepper can be exported to ensure there is no pesticide residue, but this amount of pepper is still quite small compared to the total amount of export pepper. .
Because export prices are still too good, domestic pepper prices will be kept high until the end of this year. However, the price of pepper next year is likely to be difficult to keep at the current high level. Because in the localities where pepper is grown, the price of pepper has always been attractive for many years, so the area of pepper has increased significantly. In addition, the difficulties of industrial crops such as coffee, rubber …, also contributed to increasing the area for growing pepper.
Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh explained: “Coffee is now just around the price not as high as 35,000-36,000 VND / kg, rubber is dead to death. Coffee and rubber growing land can fully grow pepper. Therefore, many farmers have switched from coffee, rubber to pepper, or take advantage of the rubber garden as a sting to intercrop pepper there.
